Paphiopedilum purpuratum is a colorful mottled-leaf orchid from China and Vietnam. Its distinctive flowers appear in the spring through fall. Strong plants can flower more than once per year. They come from relatively high elevation, so they prefer intermediate temperatures. They can even tolerate fairly cool temperatures down to five degrees Celsius.
